This teaching book is a guideline for teaching English writing 1 for undergraduate students of English Language Study Program for Business and Professional Communication of State Polytechnic of Jakarta. This book is one of the four series of English writing text which enables students to write academic writing as their final writing competence. This text purposefully will be used as a medium to enhance students’ writing competence of English in sentence and paragraph level. This book will give a basic understanding of words and sentences to elaborate the idea into a short paragraph. The topics in this book are main parts of speech i.e. nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs; and other parts of such as pronouns, articles, determiners, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections. Moreover, word formation and the features of the dictionary are studied. It also discusses the types of phrases, clauses, and sentences. In brief, this book is aimed to give a basic understanding of writing that enables the students to make a short paragraph in a grammatical sentence and well-structured idea.
